What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Internship position at City of Inver Grove Heights?
The position provides introductory experience in the administrative and implementation of parks and recreation programs, events, and recreation facilities. The internship will focus on administrative and management duties, as well as the structure, coordination, direction, and development of the service area. This internship will provide experiential education that will increase the intern’s marketability and experience. The Internship duration is 11-13 weeks in length between the months of May-August (neogotiable depending on internship needs) and one can expect to work on average 40 hours per week.
Internships can be designed to meet the specific areas of interest, qualifications and desired experiences of the student. The student will have the opportunity to participate in planning the internship experience. All interns can expect to gain experience in planning, marketing, supervising, scheduling, budgeting, customer service, and training. Interns will have learning opportunities in special events, general programming, park maintenance, golf course and community center operations (including a water park, fitness center, gym and ice arena). The student will become familiar with the entire operation of the IGH Parks and Recreation Department during their internship.
The City of Inver Grove Heights agrees to provide:

- Completion of at least two years of study in a related post-secondary program
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge and/or experience working with recreation programs and activities
- Demonstrates problem solving skills
- Computer skills on variety of software programs
- Ability to interact with public in a positive manner
- Ability to work independently and with people of all ages and abilities
- Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes some evenings and weekends
- Responsible and self-motivated
