General Description: The City of Jacksonville is looking for an Assistant Center Supervisor to assist the Community Services Division with the planning and preparation for activities involved with the Before & After School program, Recreation Department rentals and Recreation Centers. The Assistant Center Supervisor performs difficult technical and professional and responsible administrative work in conducting a variety of specialized programs and activities in an activity center or similar facility; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor. Supervision is exercised over subordinate center personnel.
The hourly rate posted is the full hourly range for this position. The hourly rate is expected to be in the range of $18.84 - $24.49 depending on qualifications.
Planning, scheduling, coordinating and supervising the activities and staff at a recreation center; overseeing the preparation and maintenance of files and records.
- Plans and administers a diversified program suited to the needs of the center's participants and potential participants.
- Assists with division budget preparation and implementation.
- Promotes division activities by preparing and distributing promotional brochures.
- Works with outside agencies to plan and present programs aimed at a diverse population.
- Acts as instructor for center activities; participates in field trips.
- Recruits, trains, supervises, evaluates part-time employees.
- Schedules and supervises use of City facilities by participant groups, enforces rules and regulations and maintains order and discipline.
- Prepares information for program brochures.
- Prepares reports on activities; requests and orders materials and supplies.
- Supervises or assists in the maintaining of cleanliness and order of the recreation center.
- Maintains facilities, equipment and grounds for center activities; maintains security.
- Maintains personnel and activity reports.
- Evaluates the work of center staff.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Plans and implement major programs such as After-School and Day Camp.
- Serves as committee member to several boards with interest to youth at risk population.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of CPR and basic first aid certifications. Ability to obtain CPRP. Thorough knowledge of the principles, rules, materials and equipment requirements of a variety of recreation activities and ability to give routine instructions; thorough knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation, psychology, and sociology, and of personal health and hygiene; general knowledge of first aid practices and techniques; ability to adhere to program standards and objectives outlined by superiors, and to lead and instruct groups in games, sports and other recreational activities; ability to resolve disputes with firmness and impartiality; ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public.
