What are the responsibilities and job description for the WWTP Operator I or II position at City of Jefferson?
The City of Jefferson is now accepting applications for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I or II for the Wastewater Division. This position will primarily operate and maintain plant treatment equipment and transport and apply bio-solids as part of the biosolids land application program.
Level I:
Operates, maintains and cleans plant equipment, including the sludge de-watering system and the head works building; operates fork lifts, fire hoses and other heavy equipment as needed.
Operates UV equipment, spreader truck and other related equipment to deliver and apply bio-solids for agricultural use.
Maintains treatment plant grounds, including cutting grass, emptying dumpsters and cleaning buildings.
Level II:
In addition to Level I, this position performs and evaluates water quality, process control tests, regulatory analysis, collections system sampling, maintains flow capacity for the treatment plant and the collection systems, and performs lab procedures associated with SBR and lagoon.
Leads small plant improvement projects.
Processes paperwork and orders materials.
Fills in for Supervisor when needed.
Education/Experience Qualifications:
Level I:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have a Missouri Class D Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License within 12 months of hire and a Missouri Class B Commercial Driver's License within 6 months of hire.
Level II:
In addition to Level I this position requires three years' relevant work experience; or an accredited Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, biology, chemistry, engineering or a related field.
An Operations Operator Requires a Missouri Class B, CDL with air brakes and tank endorsements within 6 months of hire and a Missouri Class C Wastewater treatment Plant Operator's License within 12 months of hire.
Abilities:
Physical: Ability to lift fire hoses and other equipment weighing up to 100 pounds; work with hazardous chemicals; and withstand extreme weather conditions.
Mental: Ability to concentrate while operating dangerous equipment; perform process control of the plant; assist and understand lab analysis; read and understand 0 & M manual; and perform basic troubleshooting.
A Level II additionally requires an ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; understand chemical and mathematical equations; troubleshoot complex mechanical and biological systems; and read and comprehend meters and charts.
Specific job title and salary depend on qualifications. The minimum starting annual salary for Wastewater Operator I is $40,616 and the maximum salary annual for the Wastewater Operator II is $67,169
