The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is currently accepting online applications for a Motor Equipment Operator II with the Water & Sewer department to work on a leak detection and repair crew. This is skilled work in the operation of medium construction equipment, dump trucks, front end loaders, backhoes, trackhoes, mini excavators or equivalent equipment; does related work as required. The work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment. Work in this class differs from that of the lower class of operator in that incumbents must operate heavier, more complex and specialized equipment, and several types of equipment within this category interchangeably. Supervision may be exercised over one or two employees. Work may be performed with considerable independence, but a supervisor will regularly check the work performed for quality, quantity, safety of operation and care of equipment.
Requirements for Education & Experience: completion of high school or GED and some experience in the operation and routine maintenance of specialized equipment or related automotive equipment at the level of Motor Equipment Operator I; general knowledge of machinery concentrating in construction utility work: or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience excavating underground utilities is preferred. Knowledge of the 811 locate process is helpful. Requirements include a CDL A (57) issued by the state of Tennessee. Applicants must complete a pre-employment DOT physical, drug screening and background check.
