Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Forestry Division located at 1520 West 9th Street
Salary Range: $19.27-$29.39/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with Prunes, removes, plants, trims, and cares for trees along city streets and on public grounds.
  • Participates in the planting, transplanting, mulching, watering, digging and other maintenance needs for tress planted in public streets and public properties.
  • Removes brush from cities properties and easements.
  • Removes dead, dying and storm damaged trees.
  • Prunes dead, broken undesirable branches, including crown thinning, training, and shaping the trees when needed.
  • Learns and practices proper techniques of trimming near overhead utility lines.
  • Cares and maintains tools and equipment and ensures that proper safety precautions are taken to protect the lives and properties of other workers and the public.
  • Performs proper job site setups, following all safety practices while performing tree work operations and wearing all the proper PPE.
  • Understands and carries out specific oral and written instructions.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Performs addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers and fractions.
  • Possesses the ability to write information accurately and legibly.

Qualifications


REQUIRES high school graduation OR 6 months of experience in general labor. May be required to possess a valid state-issued driver’s license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
