Position Summary:
The IT Technician provides essential technical support and customer service for the City of La Marque's employees and departments. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer systems, network equipment, and software applications. The IT Technician plays a key role in ensuring the stability and performance of the city's day-to-day technology operations and supports end users in a professional and timely manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide first-level technical support for desktops, laptops, printers, VOIP phones, and mobile devices.
- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Windows/macOS), software applications, and peripherals.
- Assist with network troubleshooting, user account management, and hardware replacements.
- Support users with email, Office 365, file access, password resets, and standard IT procedures.
- Respond to and resolve IT help desk tickets in a timely and professional manner.
- Document support actions, system changes, and resolutions in ticketing system.
- Set up and support audio/visual and conferencing systems for meetings or events.
- Assist with IT inventory management and technology deployments.
- Maintain security practices and help enforce IT policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in Information Technology or related field preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in an IT support, help desk, or technical services role.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office 365, basic networking, and computer hardware.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and maintain a professional demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CompTIA A or similar IT certification.
- Experience working in a public sector or government IT environment.
- Familiarity with help desk ticketing systems and remote support tools.
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity best practices.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position, Monday through Friday; occasional evening or weekend work may be required for support or projects.
- Work is performed in an office setting and at various city facilities; may involve lifting or moving equipment.
