The City of Lake Worth invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Recreation Program Coordinator.
This position is Full-Time, Non-Exempt based on a 40-hour work week with an hourly pay range of $21.12 - $26.40. This position is part of the Professional Managers and Supervisors Union (PMSA) collective bargaining agreement. The individual in this position will work at Leisure Services located at 501 Lake Avenue, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460.

SUMMARY:
This is responsible work in the field of public parks, recreation and cultural arts recreation facilities located throughout the City, assigned area or district. Incumbent coordinates recreation programs and events relating to scheduling by the Division or Department.
Employees in this class are responsible for training, supervising and coordinating recreational activities. Duties include the incumbent's personal participation in planning and implementing a wide range of recreation programs and activities. Responsibilities also involve establishing and maintaining a close working relationship with the community. Supervision is received from the Recreation Manager who reviews work through performance reports, conferences and observation of results. Incumbents exercise independent judgment within established policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans athletic activities, cultural, senior programs, and events to address the needs of the community; surveys the surrounding community to develop programs; coordinates recreation facility programs and city-wide departmental and multiple facility activities.
- Organizes and supervises the work of subordinate staff, contract personnel and volunteers; makes recommendations regarding hiring and discipline of subordinates; provides input for employee performance evaluations; evaluates and coordinates contracted entertainers, vendors and officials.
- Prepares periodic schedules of events and activities; plans and directs sports tournaments, special events, field trips and related programming; administers facility use, field and other activity permits and prepares grant applications.
- Serves as liaison to community groups, prospective sponsors, Parks and Recreation organizations and grant organizations.
- Prepares reports and statistical studies; recommends program budget. Handles financial transactions and sets goals and objectives for area of responsibility.
- Performs related work as required.
- Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises duties of recreation attendants as it pertains to monitoring facilities, field rentals, pavilion rentals and recreation programs/events/activities.
JOB STANDARDS:
An employee in this class is responsible for planning, formulating and supervising the operation and use of athletic fields, gymnasium, and all other recreation facilities. Studies community needs, develops long range and immediate recreation programs, and promotes public interest and participation in recreation activities. Plans, reviews and conducts in-service training for recreation personnel. Confers with officials, civic groups, youth groups and the general on matters pertaining to the recreation program. Gives talks, screens publicity releases, and through other available media, publicizes the recreation programs. The work is performed according to the practices and procedures of the Recreation Division and the City of Lake Worth.

- Knowledge and demonstrated experience of supervisory principles and practices.
- Knowledge of first aid and safety practices.
- Skills and experience in directing participants in recreation, cultural and athletic programs and activities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, vendors, sponsors and the community.
- Ability to maintain records and prepare professional reports.
- Ability to supervise employees in a manner conducive to performance standards and high morals.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university/college in Parks and Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, or a related field; one-year full-time paid experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Spanish fluency preferred.
