Role Description

The Utilities Director provides executive leadership and strategic direction for the City’s electric, natural gas, and damage prevention operations. This role is responsible for department-wide planning, policy implementation, budget oversight, capital planning, and system performance, while ensuring reliable service, regulatory compliance, and long-term utility capacity for the community. The Utilities Director serves as a member of the City’s Executive Team and plays a key role in emergency response coordination and intergovernmental and industry partnerships. This position has direct supervision over the Damage Prevention Director, Electric Director, and the Natural Gas Director.

Key Responsibilities

•Directs the City’s electric, natural gas, and damage prevention operations; manages wholesale utility purchases; leads long-term utility capacity planning; administers key account procedures.

•Develops and implements short- and long-range plans for the system including projects and equipment ensuring the annual five (5) year Capital Plan is updated and addresses future needs of the City; oversees project plans and specifications along with engineering calculations and designs; oversees the work of outside professionals, including those providing design and construction services.
