Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

Performs essential maintenance and repairs involving irrigation, plumbing, electrical, and facilities construction. Will be responsible for special event set up, break down and event logistics. This is a safety sensitive position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city. You will also be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical and background check.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.


  • Complete work orders related to routine facilities maintenance and repairs, i.e., plumbing, electrical, building, tree maintenance, and irrigation.
  • Perform general building maintenance such as carpentry, painting, repair of defects and malfunctions to ensure upkeep and esthetics related to facility presentation and safety. Includes simple tasks including but not limited to installation of shelving, changing bulbs throughout the City Parks complexes, assisting with City special event set up and break down and inspection reports of City facilitates.
  • Performs scheduled equipment preventative maintenance and repair.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with outside vendors, contractors, agencies, and internal customers, including escorting them as needed.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities with a positive, flexible approach considering the possibility of emergency situations, special projects, and/or after-hours activities.
  • Perform other responsibilities, duties, and assignments as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
  • 1 year basic plumbing, electrical and/or general maintenance experience
  • 1 year Park Facility Maintenance or comparable facility maintenance
  • Must have valid Texas State Driver’s license
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted, or evaluated at the discretion of the City.

  • Truck and Trailer Operations
  • Power Tool Operations
  • Irrigation repair and operations
  • Bucket Truck Operations

COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES

Knowledge of:

  • The methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial and minor building maintenance
  • Applicable plumbing, electrical, and carpentry basic repair techniques
  • Appropriate maintenance procedures and tools required to properly execute assigned tasks
  • Basic knowledge of lighting fixtures, bulbs, ballasts, and switches
  • Tree maintenance and trimming
  • English grammar, spelling, punctuation


Skill in:

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate communication.
  • Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
  • Basic computer knowledge- excel, email, word


Ability to:


  • Must be physically able to lift 50lbs
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, contractors, and the public
  • Work with limited direct supervision to meet schedules and deadlines of the work
  • Read and understand bulletins, regulations, rule books, manufacturer manuals and work instructions
  • Safely operate hand and power tools, including those associated with electrical maintenance and tree trimming
  • Troubleshoot issues and resolve them in a timely matter
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Work from heights greater than 40ft
