Summary/Objective
The Assistant Swim Coach assists in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the recreational swim team program and coordinate meets and events in conjunction with the Leawood Lighting Parent Board and City Staff. This position is responsible for assisting in the coordination of swim practices and meets along with the safety of the participants.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
- Responsible for assisting the Head Swim Coach in the planning, preparing and implementing well diversified and structured swim practices and meets for patrons. Duties include but not limited to ensuring participants are informed of important information, coordinating transportation to meets and events and ensuring the safety of the patrons.
- Assists the Swim Coach with day-to-day activities for the swim team.
- Assists the Swim Lesson Coordinator in conducting swim lessons for patrons ranging in age from one to fourteen years of age. Ensures the safety of the patrons during swim lessons.
- Attends required meeting and training sessions.
- Wears approved attire at all times.
- Reports to scheduled work shifts on time.
- May be required to represent the City and the Swim team at meetings and special functions.
- May be required to make decisions regarding inclement weather in regards to meets and practices, which may warrant cancelling participation or seeking shelter.
Education, Training, and Certification Requirements
- Must be 17 years of age and have a minimum of two (2) years of experience of coaching swim lessons.
- Equivalent requirement is 18 years of age and one (1) year experience.
- One (1) year of college or equivalent experience preferred.
- Competitive swimming experience required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.
