Lexington, NC, striving to be a #CityofChoice and a #WorkplaceofChoice, is seeking a team and service oriented Utility Service Worker to join #OneCityTeam and be a part of our Water Resources Maintenance Construction team for installation and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection lines. This includes installing water and wastewater meter connections, repairing water and wastewater main breaks, cleaning wastewater mains, and responding to customer complaints regarding water and wastewater including 24 hour emergency service.

This position provides eligibility for pay increases with successful obtainment of water resources certifications and provides a vertical career ladder opportunity that may allow the selected candidate to advance to a higher job title and pay with the acquisition of additional knowledge, skills, certifications, abilities, responsibilities and experience during the course of employment.

Performs responsible semi-skilled or skilled work in the installation, repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines and appurtenances for the Water Resources Maintenance and Construction Department. Check out the great benefits the City has to offer.

Water Resources Service Worker I

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent;
  • Some experience in the use of common hand and power tools;
  • Possession of a driver’s license valid in NC and good driving record;
  • Ability to work regularly and to perform manual labor for extended periods often under unfavorable conditions.

Water Resources Service Worker II

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent;
  • Grade I Wastewater Operator’s certificate or Grade C Water Distribution certificate
  • Some experience in the Maintenance, repair and/or construction of water and sewer lines;
  • Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement and good driving record;
  • Demonstrable skills equivalent to two years as a Utility Serviceworker I.

Water Resources Service Worker III

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent;
  • Considerable experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of water and/or sewer lines, operating equipment, and making service connections;
  • Valid Grade III Wastewater Operator’s certificate or Grade B Water Distribution certificate;
  • Possession of flagger certification from the NC Department of Transportation;
  • Valid Class B or A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement and good driving record;
  • Demonstrable skills equivalent to two years’ experience as a Utility Serviceworker II.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 7:00am-4:00pm. On-call rotation. Paid bi-weekly.
