Summary/objective
The Maintenance Technician contributes to the overall mission of the Street Division by working as a street maintenance crewmember. Responsible for assisting in all related maintenance administered by the Street Division.
Essential functions
- Perform pavement repairs using general knowledge of basic construction techniques, including asphalt and concrete pavement.
- Assist in securing work areas and maintaining safe work sites by placement of appropriate warning devices and wear special protective devices.
- Operate single/tandem axle trucks, heavy equipment and various power/hand tools.
- Perform routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Communicate orally and in writing, including using the telephone and two-way radio.
Other Duties
- Respond to emergency call-backs during non-duty hours for emergency operations including snow and ice control.
- Perform routine and timely maintenance of streets, alleys, and storm sewer network and spring clean-up activities to provide clean and safe roadways.

Requirements
Required education and experience
- High School graduate, equivalent or GED.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Kansas Commercial Driver’s License within 90-days of employment.
Preferred education and experience
- Two (2) years of relevant experience in construction and/or repair of streets, drainage, or highways.
