We are recruiting for a Court Specialist within the City of Medford’s Municipal Court Department. The Municipal Court handles criminal misdemeanors as well as parking, traffic, and city ordinance violations issued by the Medford Police Department. The department strives to promote innovation and continual improvement through collaboration and best practices and ensures every person accused of wrongdoing is provided the constitutional right of a fair and timely judicial process while preserving their rights and dignity.
The Court Specialist performs various technical, administrative and clerical functions in order to support the operations and services of the Municipal Court, which includes the preparation and maintenance of records and all documents and processes related to cases and actions of the court. The ideal candidate will be teamwork oriented and skilled at multitasking.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in judicial, legal or law enforcement field which must include clerical, administrative support or customer relations experience.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to accurately process cash transactions.
- Ability to effectively use office equipment and computer software, specifically in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Ability to obtain Law Enforcement Data Systems (LEDS) certification within six months of employment.
- Ability to obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance upon hire.
- Completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations concerning the operation of municipal government.
- Judicial experience, especially jury administration and management.
- Knowledge of court documents, terminology, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Tyler Technologies software.
- Bilingual ability to speak, read, and write in English and Spanish. Employees bilingual in English/Spanish may receive an additional 5% differential.
