This position is responsible to help support the City of Merriam’s mission by helping to present a safe, sanitary, friendly, and fun patron experience, performing duties in a safe manner, while promoting the City’s values.
Essential Functions
- Provide a high level of hospitality to patrons of the Community Center to include guest assistance and fitness equipment education.
- Inspect and evaluate the fitness equipment and report signs of wear to supervisor.
- Understand and enforce all facility policies.
- Control overuse/monopolization of equipment during peak hours.
- Supervise guest activities in gymnasium, fitness center, and walking track.
- Provides basic first aid to patrons, as needed.
- Stock towels for patron use and assists in the laundering of community center property.
- Assist with fitness center orientations helping to educate patrons on the proper use of fitness equipment.
- Assist with special event set-up, to include tables and chairs, event-specific equipment, and room preparation.
- Serves as birthday party room host.
- Ensure the fitness area remains clean and organized by performing light maintenance duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash, and disinfecting equipment to ensure a sanitary and clean patron experience.
- Carries out all duties in a safe manner and in keeping with industry standards.
- Promotes City values at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must have knowledge of a variety and use of fitness equipment.
- Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic mathematical computations.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to type with minimal errors.
- Knowledge of personal computers and Windows-based software.
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all members of the public
