General Description This is an unskilled manual labor position responsible for the daily maintenance, operation, construction, and repairs to the water distribution system. Responsible for installing and replacing water meters, water boxes, valves, piping, hydrants, and all associated infrastructure within the water distribution system. Responsible for locating marking utilities, assists in updating distribution maps. May operate heavy equipment in support of maintenance and operations to the distribution system as may be required. Work differs from Distribution Technician II in the skill level of tasks performed and the certifications held.
(Reports to Lead Distribution and Public Works Superintendent).
Responsibilities:
- Performs distribution system operations and maintenance including but not limited to; operation of heavy equipment, tapping machines, meter testing equipment, hand tools, trencher, and any other equipment as may be required; locate and mark utility lines by using location equipment and/or excavating equipment; maintain. Repair, replace, install new and existing water mains, service lines, meters, meter boxes, fire hydrants, valves, valve box/pad, pressure reducing valves and vaults, maintenance of all related equipment.
- Responsible for performing routine excavation for the repair and maintenance of water mains, water services, meter and meter boxes, valve and valve box/pads by using hand tools or heavy equipment as may be required.
- Responsible for responding to customer complaints on water quality issues, low pressure complaints, and all other customer related issues as directed and completing proper work orders for tracking complaints.
- Responsible for the installation of all new water meters, replacement meters, meter boxes, service piping and shut off valves as may be required. Completing work orders and necessary paperwork for the utility billing department as may be required. Assist the public in answering questions and providing routine information, address public complaints as directed.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs to the water distribution system while working in and around high traffic areas. Have thorough knowledge of F.D.O.T traffic safety procedures including but not limited to: setting up traffic barricades, cones, signage, work zone safety procedures traffic safety and flagging procedures and implementation. Utility line locates, and operating heavy equipment as may be required.
- May be required to be on-call after hours, holidays, and weekends; and work overtime as may be necessary.
- May be required to work extended hours, especially during emergencies and natural disasters.
- At certain times, employees may be required to be On-Call (Standby) status.

Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Requires working in and around heavy to medium vehicular and pedestrian traffic areas.
Must have some working knowledge of materials, equipment, methods, safety techniques, and regulatory requirements that may be required to complete all tasks in the construction, operations, and maintenance of a water distribution system.
Special courses training in D.O.T. regulations, OSHA standards, Underground Utility Installation, Work Zone Safety, Confined Space Entry Procedures, and Shoring/Trenching.
Valid Driver License.
Must obtain a Distribution License within 24 months of hire.
Must reside within twenty-five (25) miles from Minneola’s city limits.
Physical Requirements:
Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable eyesight includes, but not limited to depth perception, close, distance, peripheral, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
Acceptable dexterity in fingers and hands.
Ability to stand for brief periods of time; ability to walk short distances; ability to sit for brief periods of time.
Ability to twist, reach, bend, stoop, lift, twist, and climb ladders and stairs.
Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry between fifty (50) to seventy-five pounds (75).
The job requires driving a city vehicle (transporting other employees at times) and operating necessary equipment to perform essential functions.
Environmental Conditions:
Work is outdoors with exposure to dust, pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, bright and/or dim light, heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, fumes or noxious odors, traffic and moving machinery.

Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Valid Florida Driver’s License, Class (B) CDL. Preferred.
