ABOUT THE POSITION: The HVAC Senior Technician position is a full-time position located at the Presidio of Monterey. The facility contains numerous buildings with various HVAC systems, all of which serve critical functions. This position will require a strong professional background in troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining a variety of complex HVAC systems, including large commercial systems and chillers. The successful candidate will need to possess strong technical HVAC skills as well as supervisory, project management, customer service and record keeping ability. Current possession of Section 608Technician Certification is preferred. The selected candidate will be required to successfully pass a military background check.

This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays and be available for work on an emergency basis.

- Leads and participates in the general and HVAC repairs on all City-owned or operated buildings;
- Repair and replace boilers and controllers, digital and electronic controls, install and monitor VAV and VAM box repair and adjust;
- Repair and adjust economizers and implement new HVAC technologies;
- Understand and implement with the assistance of others, Energy Efficient measures and systems;
- Able to perform the yearly combustion test and ensure the boiler log books are accurate;
- Responsible for the quality of the air filters;
- Recommend and perform corrective action for all Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning problems such as furnace repairs, hot water heaters, expansion tanks, air separators, program control panels and be able to measure air volume and perform temperature control adjustments, repair and where necessary replace air conditioning and refrigeration equipment;
- Install lights, switches and runs conduit;
- Lays tile floors; build forms, frames and shelves;
- Repairs furniture; prepares walls for plastering;
- Makes simple cabinets; installs water heaters, sinks, and lavatories;
- Installs copper lines and galvanized pipes; makes repair to heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems;
- Installs and maintains roofing;
- Finishes concrete; paints interior and exterior of buildings; replace broken window glass and frames;
- Checks supply level and requisitions materials as required;
- Prepares cost estimates and maintenance plans;
- Cleans and maintains tools and equipment; drives pickup truck; performs duties on stand-by on a regularly scheduled basis;
- May act as a leadworker over a small crew; in absence of Facilities Maintenance Coordinator may supervise the work of Building Maintenance Craftsworkers and others assigned to Building Maintenance Projects.
