The employees of the New Albany Flood Control District are responsible for, but not limited to, maintaining and operating the Levee System.
Maintenance of the Levee System includes, but not limited to, mowing grass / landscaping, removal of unwanted vegetation, trial operations of sluice gates, participation with New Albany Fire Department in trial operations of closure structures, inspections of pumping stations and trial operations of equipment (pumps) they contain, routine visual levee inspections, routine visual flood wall inspection, routine visual closure vault inspections, routine visual inspections of water systems adjacent to levee system, light maintenance of all equipment necessary to perform daily task, and other tasks as supervisor sees fit.
Operations of the Levee System occurs when the City of New Albany is threatened by and / or fighting a flood event. Tasks include, but not limited to, being available for work, operating sluice gates, manning pumping plants, assist New Albany Fire Department with installation of closure structures, sand bagging, and other tasks as supervisor sees fit.
Job requirements of New Albany Flood Control District employees include, but not limited to, valid driver's license, ability to complete minor repairs on lawn mowers and weed eaters, ability to operate lawn mowers, tractors, and weed eaters, available for required work in emergencies (any days, any hours), ability to climb high heights, ability to follow directions, willingness to learn and / or train for special task to perform job duties.
