SANITATION EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
The City is currently seeking to fill a position in the Sanitation Department. This exciting position will require the individual to not only work to keep the downtown streets of Newnan clean, but will be the front line of customer service for our downtown residents and business owners.
Our ideal candidate will be able to operate heavy equipment in the collection of waste and recyclables, performing equipment inspection and minor repair and related work as apparent or assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive and operate sanitation collection truck on prescribed route; pick up refuse and transport to appropriate facilities; drive and operate garbage packer, boom truck, front end loader and other heavy equipment.
- Perform pre-trip safety inspections on trucks and heavy equipment, check fluids, tires, lights, etc.
- Operate heavy equipment in the operation and maintenance of the department's facilities; haul brush and debris.
- Perform light preventative and general maintenance on vehicle; clean and gas vehicle.
- Lift or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 100 pounds with assistance; ability to mount/dismount truck multiple times per shift.
- Job entails regular exposure to cold, heat, weather, dust, fumes, and noise; constant exposure to deadlines; great pressure and fatigue during an average workday; frequent evening and/or weekend work is required; requires 24 hour on-call status for emergency situations; long hours operating heavy equipment.
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in grounds maintenance including the operation of motorized equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
REQUIREMENTS:
Valid State Class B commercial driver's license.
Possession of or ability to obtain Flagger certification within one year of hire.
Background check, motor vehicle history, and pre-employment drug screen required.
Rate of pay based on experience and qualifications - Minimum Rate $18.26 per hour
