The City of Norfolk Department of Human Services (NDHS) connects eligible citizens to federal, state and local resources for food, healthcare, childcare, cash assistance, workforce development, and energy and utility assistance. Some of the services we provide are Adult Protective Services, Services for at-risk youth and their families, Adoption and Foster Care, Resources for homeless families and individuals in Norfolk, college internships, Senior and Veterans assistance, and more.

The NDHS is seeking to fill a Support Technician position to perform financial and clerical duties related to Family Services/Child Protective Services. Answers telephone inquiries, maintains and updates records and prepares reports. Maintains electronic files, process paperwork, document meetings, type documents and correspondences, compile reports, sorts and distributes mail, and order office supplies. Provides support to Child Protective Services Program, to include Investigation Unit, In-Home, and Family Support.
Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $40,688- $46,791
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Provides clerical assistance to the Child Protective Services program.
- Prepares correspondences, documents meeting notes, schedules appointments and meetings,
- Maintains and retrieves files, distributing calendars and work schedules,
- Maintains office supplies,
- Enters documents into the agency’s electronic filing system,
- Keeps various logs of information, maintains databases, and prepares correspondence and reports,
- Research documents as requested,
- Processes incoming mail, paperwork, and completes paperwork,
- Maintains security of classified or sensitive information related to client, personnel, and financial records,
- Assists clerical team members with basic office clerical duties.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
One year of general office work experience. A bachelor's degree or above may substitute work experience (as approved by the department).
