The City of Norfolk's Department of Parks & Recreation is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor II for Cemeteries. The Maintenance Supervisor II plans, assigns and directs the work of maintenance crews. The incumbent performs maintenance on buildings, grounds and equipment.
Three years experience as a Maintenance Technician or Supervisor.
Work Location: Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby Street, Norfolk, Virginia 23505
Work Hours: Saturday to Wednesday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
Departmental Hiring Salary: $46,583
Essential functions include but are not limited to:- Supervises landscape operations by assigning up to 5 grounds crews and equipment to specific jobs, overseeing work performed, establishing goals and objectives, directing emergency field operations, training employees and implementing safety programs.
- Assesses the maintenance needs of ground, completes turf risk assessments, determines the appropriate maintenance of assessed parks and grounds, and ensures compliance of all maintenance work permits and contractual work with city policies.
- Responds to emergencies involving inclement weather, prioritizes service requests, assesses work conditions, coordinates and assigns responsibilities and equipment to various crews, and conveys inspection results and policies to staff, coworkers, and the public. All work will be done in City cemeteries, primary focus is assist with the opening and closing graves.
- Manages workload during routine and stressful environments such as storm response and cleanup.
Three years experience as a Maintenance Technician or Supervisor.
- Virginia Driver’s License required.
- Virginia Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
- Virginia Commercial Pesticide Applicator License preferred, required within 6 months of employment.
- Virginia Commercial Pesticide Technician License preferred, required within 6 months of employment.
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred, required within 6 months of employment.
