This is a position with limited police authority to perform the essential job functions which do not include arrest authority.EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION & EXPERIENCE: Higher education or vocational school training in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice administration, or related field; or verifiable work experience in a law enforcement-related position. Knowledge of the applicable laws, ordinances, and departmental rules and regulations; ability to communicate both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, and police department personnel; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; knowledge or ability to learn the City’s geography; ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating emergency and non-emergency situations and in making decisions; ability to perform duties on self-initiating basis without constant and/or direct supervision. Proficiency with languages other than English.JOB DUTIES: Responds to specific types of law enforcement calls for service that do not require an immediate, armed, law enforcement response.Performs crime prevention duties and community-oriented police services. Investigates thefts, frauds, forgeries, and other crimes that do not require being armed or suspect contact.Monitoring and Enforcement of overtime Parking Regulations within the City Limits of North Bend.Contacts individuals to advise code violations and methods of compliance. When appropriate, prepares and serves citations for City Code infractions.Documents and maintains logs and complete records of all investigations, including complaints, photographs, and other evidence, telephone contacts, follow,-up visits and correspondence, and citations.Monitor and manage cases reported through online reporting systems used at the North Bend Police Department.Directs motor vehicle traffic as required, including assisting with traffic control at special events and traffic crashes. Helps assist with information exchanges when needed.Prepares detailed written incidents and other reports as required, such as thefts and lost/found property. Testifies in court as required and does any follow-up as ordered.Assists with taking animal(s) to Coos County Animal Control.Acts as Police Department liaison with various community organizations and/or agencies.Assists the public by giving directions, providing information, and answering questions.Attends meetings as required. Other duties as assigned.WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, non-exempt position.
