Pay Scale & Expected Starting Rates

• Operator in Training – $24.02/hour

• Operator I – $25.22–$37.84/hour

  • Expected starting rate: $25.22/hour

• Operator II – $26.48–$39.73/hour

  • Expected starting rate: $26.48/hour

• Operator III – $27.81–$41.71/hour

  • Expected starting rate: $27.81/hour

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Plant Operator

• Make regular rounds to inspect and monitor plant operations.

• Record data into SCADA and maintain detailed logs.

• Adjust treatment processes as necessary.

• Clean and maintain plant equipment, grounds, and facilities.

• Troubleshoot and repair systems and equipment.

• Perform periodic deep-cleaning of pits and treatment structures.

• Respond to emergency events and alarms.

• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Operator in Training (OIT)

• Learn and assist with the full scope of wastewater treatment operations.

• Gain hands-on experience with SCADA, chemical feed systems, pumps, motors, and generators.

• Collect, process, and report water samples, including submissions to MoDNR.

• Support senior operators and complete tasks under guidance.

• Operate cranes and calibrate flow meters and equipment.

• Progress toward full Plant Operator duties while working toward Class D certification.

Requirements

• All Candidates Must Have:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Strong mechanical and problem-solving skills

  • Physical ability to lift, climb, and work in varied conditions

  • Willingness to follow all safety and operational procedures

• Operator in Training:

  • Must obtain Missouri Class D Wastewater Treatment Certification within 1 year of appointment
    (Failure to do so will result in termination)

• Plant Operator (I/II/III):

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Missouri Class D or higher wastewater license

  • Class C, B, or A license preferred for advancement

  • Ability to obtain Missouri Class A CDL preferred
