Job Summary
Position: Seasonal Sanitation Worker (Non-Exempt) Department: Public Works - Refuse Job Summary: The Seasonal Sanitation Worker provides assistance with refuse routes and the recycle center. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Sanitation/Refuse Supervisor and does not have supervisory responsibilities.

$15.00 per hour (No benefits)
Schedule:
Monday – Friday; 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; generally 40 hours per week; flexibility required for occasional Saturday hours
Essential Functions
The main responsibility will be to assist with refuse routes and; on a limited basis; the recycle center which may include:
• Perform refuse operations mainly from the back end of trash truck; typically lifting yard waste; requiring ability to step on and off the truck throughout the day
• May assist in basic operational maintenance and care for refuse vehicles such as greasing; washing; and minor repairs
• Use other equipment such as common hand and power tools
• Assist with hauling trailers; opening/closing and cleanliness of recycle center
• Ensures recyclable and waste materials are placed in appropriate containers
• Complete work assignments in a timely and accurate manner
• Demonstrate ability to work as a team with other members of the crew/division; willingly providing assistance as needed
• Maintain communication with higher authorities as to work progress; operations problems; need for equipment and/or materials; delay in completion schedule and related items; providing accurate and timely information
• Provide professional; punctual and courteous service at all times to citizens of the City of Owasso
• Show support and respect for the organization; its policies and people; to supervisors; co-workers; customers; venders; and the public
• Use equipment and supplies in a safe and economical manner; reporting needs for repair and/or replacement to appropriate individual in a timely manner
• Demonstrate an attitude of cooperation; open-mindedness and flexibility
• Perform other duties as assigned in a positive manner which supports the vision and strategic objectives of the division/department and the entire organization of the City of Owasso
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High School Graduate or GED equivalent
• Valid OK drivers’ license with a good driving record
• Backhoe experience a plus
Working Environment and Physical Requirements
Work will be performed mostly outdoors in all types of weather conditions including extreme temperatures; hot and cold; wet and/or humid conditions. The work environment may include exposure to drafts; noise; dust; grease; and traffic and may require use of personal protective equipment.
Tasks require operating assigned equipment and vehicles; entering/exiting/or accessing refuse vehicle approximately 300 times per day; the ability to exert physical effort in heavy lifting/moving; carrying; pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy weight (up to 100 pounds); and typically involving some combination of walking; standing; or stepping and climbing for extended periods of time; balancing; climbing; crawling; crouching; feeling; handling; hearing; kneeling; reaching; repetitive motion; and mental and visual acuity.
