What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Athletics Coach position at City of Palo Alto?
The City of Palo Alto is seeking responsible, enthusiastic, and communicative coaches for our middle school athletics program this Fall. This program serves 6th-8th grade students from three Palo Alto middle schools and residents attending schools without our sports offerings. As a recreation-based program, we emphasize creating a positive team environment and teaching sports fundamentals. Our aim is to include as many children as possible, so we do not make cuts; all registered participants are placed on teams based on skill level and the number of available coaches. We are starting our hiring process now to make sure coaches are cleared and in place by the time our school year begins.
Program Information:
- Fall 2024 Sports: Girls Flag Football, Boys Flag Football, Cross Country, and Girls Volleyball
- Season Dates (Approximate): Week of August 26 – Week of October 21
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, after school between 2:30 pm-7:00 pm
- A 3-4 day commitment for 1-1.5 hours each day is ideal but flexible.
- Practice and game schedules can be adjusted to fit your availability.
- Games and meets typically occur Monday-Thursday, with Fridays reserved for practice if needed.
- Locations: Coaching opportunities are available at Fletcher, Greene, or JLS middle schools.
- Practices are held at the home school site.
- Half of the games are away games, some in nearby cities such as San Mateo and potentially Half Moon Bay (travel discussions are welcome).
- Pay Scale: $20-$26/hour based on experience and qualifications.
- Coaches are compensated for program time, practice and game planning, and parent communication time.
- Hiring Requirements:
- Applicants must eligible to work in the United States, pass a background check, submit a negative TB test, and complete hiring paperwork with Human Resources before starting. These items are not required at the time of application.
