EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FULL-TIME
SUPERVISORY AND PROFESSIONAL UNION
JOB TITLE: QUALITY ASSURANCE TRAFFIC INSPECTOR
DEPARTMENT: DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICES
Assists the Traffic Superintendent and inspects contracted work performed for the City including but not limited to: street markings, street lighting, traffic signals, public shade tree management, street signs, snow removal operations, etc. Inspects, in coordination with the Water and Sewer Divisions, the utility work performed by private contractors and city staff for compliance with local, state and federal standards and regulations, enforces safety regulations, and maintain records documenting inspections.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides assistance to the Traffic Superintendent.
  • Inspects contracted work performed for the City for compliance with the specification. Enforces safety regulations, and maintain records documenting inspections. Inspections include but are not limited to, contracted or in-house work related to street markings, street lighting, traffic signals, public shade tree management, street signs, snow removal operations, etc.
  • Inspects, in coordination with the Water and Sewer Divisions, all utility work performed by private contractors and city staff for compliance with local, state and federal standards and regulations, and enforces safety regulations. Maintain records documenting inspections. Assists with training for full time and seasonal employees.
  • Participates in snow removal operations.
  • Enforces safety regulations, maintains discipline, and reviews work of personnel, and makes records of work performed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license
  • Five years of experience in maintenance and construction of highway and water distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of roadway pavement and infrastructure maintenance. Ability to read and use drawings and maps. Possess a working knowledge of MUTCD sign policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise maintenance personnel with varying skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspect and manage private contract work including quality of work, timeliness and financial accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and supervise multi-phase jobs or operations and execute schedules.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to deal effectively with other staff members, departments, elected officials, volunteers and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a personal computer, including basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbent will be required to work both inside and outside of facilities. May be required to work at any time during the 24-hour day to respond to weather-related or emergency needs. Incumbent may be required to work in inclement weather.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability and agility to walk long distances over uneven terrain and climb ladders; lift fifty (50) pounds from the ground level to chest height in standing position; and work outdoors in all seasons.
HOURS
Monday – Friday, 40 Hours per week
