The Placentia Police Department is seeking a dedicated individual who works with integrity and values public service to serve as a Police Services Officer.

Under the direction of the Support Services Administrator, the Police Services Officer performs a variety of duties and works in several areas of the police department, including the jail; processes the entry and release of persons in custody, including preparing booking reports and release forms; fingerprinting, photographing, and safeguarding entrusted property; prepares reports that do not require the presence of a sworn officer; enforces parking violations; impounds vehicles; and performs other related duties as assigned.The following list of functions, duties, and tasks is typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform other closely related or department-specific functions, duties, and tasks from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
  • Obtains personal history and medical information from prisoners and completes the necessary documents for booking and completes all booking paperwork.
  • Feeds prisoners and inventories, books, stores, and releases property to owners and other authorized personnel.
  • Assumes responsibility for the welfare and safety of all prisoners within the city jail facility and maintains physical control of prisoners; performs security, safety, and health checks of persons and the facility.
  • Coordinates visiting procedures, including those between prisoners and bail bondsmen, attorneys, and any other approved visitors.
  • Oversees maintenance and cleanliness of the jail facility.
  • Releases prisoners by issuing citations, receiving bail/bond, or transportation to the county jail facility as well as other designated custodial facilities such as state prisons, etc.
  • Patrols an assigned area on foot or by vehicle to enforce parking regulations, and issues citations for various parking violations.
  • Locates, marks, and arranges for the storage of abandoned vehicles, illegally parked vehicles or vehicles to be stored or impounded as a result of arrest.
  • Receives and responds to community inquiries regarding criminal, civil, and traffic problems, as well as miscellaneous incidents; and assists the public by answering questions and referring appropriate problems to other personnel or referral agencies when appropriate.
OTHER DUTIES:
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and the City.
Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
A high school or GED equivalent, supplemented by college-level course work in law enforcement, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field; one year of parking enforcement experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

LICENSE(S) REQUIRED:
Valid, current driver’s license.
  • The City reasonably expects driving to be one of the job functions for the position, and the City reasonably believes that using an alternative form of transportation would not be comparable in travel time or cost to the City.

CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING REQUIRED:
  • Certification of completion of jail training school, certification of chemical weaponry, and driver training
RECRUITMENT PROCESS

The list is valid for up to 1 year, or until an insufficient number of candidates remain, whichever comes first.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER: 
Under California law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109), all City of Placentia employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers (DSW). In the event of a catastrophic event, City of Placentia employees may be expected to fulfill emergency action assignments. As DSW's employees may be assigned to assist in any disaster service activity that promotes the protection of public health and safety and preservation of lives and property.
