Descriptive Statement

The Temp Police Building Manager is a non-exempt position under the general supervision of a police captain.

The Temp Police Building Manager of the Pueblo Municipal Justice Center is responsible for coordinating and/or performing the maintenance, upkeep, and repair of the facilities, building, and grounds comprising the Pueblo Municipal Justice Center. In addition, the Manager is responsible for facilitating the service and repair of vehicles assigned to the Pueblo Police Department in coordination with the City Fleet Maintenance Shop.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinates, organizes, and plans the general repairs and maintenance of the Pueblo Municipal Justice Center
  • Performs minor repairs to buildings, furniture, and equipment using basic hand tools
  • Responsible for building security and accountability as well as issuing and cutting keys for use in the building
  • Coordinates and facilitates requested additions or changes to the physical building with Public Works
  • Coordinates with supervisors and other personnel of the Pueblo Department of Public Works to utilize the resources and training that can be provided by the Public Works Division
  • Must work with the Pueblo Purchasing Department to prepare, and submit for bid by outside providers, contracts for the general cleaning and other needs of the Pueblo Municipal Justice Center
  • Coordinates and assigns tasks as needed to building custodians
  • Coordinates with the contracted cleaning company assigning tasks as needed
  • Responsible for the orderly facilitation of the preventive maintenance and repair of vehicles assigned to the Pueblo Police Dept through coordination and collaboration with the City of Pueblo Fleet Maintenance Shops
  • Researches and prepares purchase orders for the acquisition of supplies and equipment for new and present vehicles in the Fleet and facilitates the installation and operation of Police Department equipment
  • Ensures that each vehicle of the Fleet is equipped with the proper equipment assigned to a particular vehicle and facilitates the acquisition and replacement of said equipment and supplies
  • Routinely uses city vehicles to perform errands which may include the transport of property and/or evidence
  • Other duties as assigned


IMPORTANT
FUNCTIONS:

  • May perform the duties of similar classifications of an equal or lower pay grade
  • May be required to assist in carpentry, heating and air conditioning, electrical, and other trades type positions


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical standards an employee must meet in order to perform the essential job duties with or without a reasonable accommodation include, but are not limited to:

  • Lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Frequently stands and walks for prolonged periods of time to observe for safety hazards and perform cleaning and minor repairs
  • Frequently climbs ladders and stairs in a multi-level facility to perform general custodial work
  • Uses manual dexterity to manipulate cleaning and maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment
  • Uses visual acuity to read operating manuals and instructions; safely operate a vehicle and cleaning equipment; and identify and correct unsightly, dirty, or unsafe areas
  • Frequently performs activities requiring a full range of body movements including sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crawling, twisting, and balancing

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • The Temp Police Building Manager must be familiar with methods and procedures used in construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings
  • Must have the skills and ability to plan, direct, schedule, and inspect the work of skilled tradesman
  • Must possess basic mathematic skills and have the ability to prepare and administer budgets
  • Must be able to communicate with city personnel, vendors, and contractors, and with the public in a courteous and professional manner
  • Must be able to make timely and accurate cost estimates
  • Must be skilled in overseeing the work of contractors
  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering plans and construction drawings
  • Must be able to effectively use a computer to generate and respond to correspondence such as memorandums and email messages

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma/GED equivalent or higher
  • A basic understanding of MS Word and Excel
  • At least two years of maintenance experience
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Class “R” Colorado driver’s license


SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position involves indoor and outdoor work with exposure to all weather conditions, noise, fumes, dust, and chemicals. The work may also be performed in confined spaces, around water, electrical currents, traffic, and other hazardous conditions. Must be willing to work on an on-call basis and be prepared to work in emergency situations.

Candidates must be willing to submit to and pass the following post-conditional job offer requirements:

  • Comprehensive background investigation including submission of fingerprints
  • Pre-employment drug screen

City of Pueblo Temporary and Seasonal Employee Sick Leave Benefits
Beginning January 1, 2021, all employers in Colorado are required to provide paid sick leave to employees under the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (“HFWA”). Said leave is accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours.
Per the Act, leave may be used for any of the following reasons:

  • The employee has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care.
  • The employee needs to care for a family member who has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care.
  • The employee or family member has been the victim of domestic abuse, sexual assault, or harassment and needs to be absent from work for purposes related to such crime; or
  • A public official has ordered the closure of the school or place of care of the employee's child or of the employee's place of business due to a public health emergency, necessitating the employee's absence from work.


Consistent with the HWFA, part-time temporary and seasonal employees of the City shall not carry forward more than forty-eight (48) hours of unused sick leave from one year to the next.

City employment as a temporary or seasonal employee means that the most you can expect to work is 1300 hours in a calendar year. Depending on the work schedule required by the hiring department, this means more time to spend with your family and/or doing other activities.
