The Rapid City Public Library is looking for part-time help! Rapid City Public Library is an asset to the community that provides access to diverse information, technology, events, and an ever-growing list of services intended to engage, educate and entertain. This position provides support in various areas of the library by helping to maintain collections, assisting customers and carrying out other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: None.
Communication Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization. Demonstrated customer service skills through the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and sequence in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Interprets library procedures to address situations based on employee's best judgment, and makes recommendations for modifications to procedure as necessary. Applies self-direction and effective time management skills for coordination of individual and team projects and daily priorities. Complies with state law and library policy regarding confidentiality of library resources.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work schedule is based on needs for library services, over 7 days per week, daytime and evenings, at any of the library facilities.

- Maintain collections through shelving and inventory control.
- Assists in the location and retrieval of materials for reports such as holds and lost or missing items. Uses technology to communicate with colleagues, enter work tickets and track information.
