What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Plant Operator- T-3(D-2) / T-4 (D-3) position at City of Redding?
- Check, adjust and repair chemical injection equipment.
- Check turbidities in the plant and system.
- Operate, assess, and maintain filter treatment operation effectiveness.
- Check chlorination equipment.
- Collect samples for analysis of water and run lab tests as needed.
- Check pumps or booster stations, check wells for operation, productions, and water quality.
- Oversee the work of assigned employees.
Knowledge of:
- Chemical processes involved in water treatment and relevant safety procedures
- All types of operation and maintenance work on water supply, treatment, and distribution facilities
- Servicing, setting, and installation procedures for meters
- State and Federal water quality standards
- Safety policies, procedures and practices
- Computer operations and SCADA software.
- Operate all necessary vehicles and equipment to meet the responsibilities of the job.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Drive a utility truck and use a hydro lift, forklift, power tools, hand tools, water analysis equipment, and air compressor.
- Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying;
- Typical education would include a High school diploma or equivalent, with strong background in biology, chemistry, and algebra
- College classes necessary to obtain California T-3 (D-2) or T-4 (D-3) Water Treatment Certificate.
- Typical experience would include two years experience in water treatment.
- California Water Treatment Operator T-3 (D-2) or T-4 (D-3) Certificate;
- Certification as First Responder for HAZMAT; California Water Distribution Operator Grade 2 Certificate.
- Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
