Maintenance Technician - Streets

It is important to the City of Redmond and its citizens to have clear, well-maintained and well-lit roads to ensure that traffic flows as smoothly and safely as possible. In order to accomplish that, our Streets Maintenance Technicians help manage, monitor, and maintain several street operations such as: 

• Pothole & pavement repair
• Signs and markings
• Street lighting
• Street sweeping
• Snow & ice response

About the Job 
If selected to join us, this position will give you a chance to learn and perform the following functions and more: 

• Maintain right of ways; trim trees and mow
• Apply herbicides to sidewalks, pathways, and right of ways to control vegetation.
• Sweep roadways and bike lanes
• Apply anti-icing liquids to bridges and roadways to prevent ice from forming
• Plow and sand arterial roadways and residential streets during snow storms
• Maintain and repair guardrails, crash cushions and reflectors.
• Maintain, repair or replace damaged sidewalks and special purpose pathways
• Inventory and maintain special purpose pathways and replace fencing when needed
• Repair hand rails and clean graffiti off bridge structures
• Repair pot holes, asphalt patching, overlays, including grinding and crack sealing

Our Streets Team members must be available to work on a 24-hour standby basis several times a year for a week at a time to provide coverage and services for emergencies.

Education and Experience

• Any combination equivalent to high school diploma or equivalency and one (1) year construction or trades experience  
• Municipal experience not required but preferred 
• CDL with direct experience driving commercial vehicles not required but preferred

Licenses and Certificates

• Valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record that meets city standards
• This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
