What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mower position at City of Republic?

Primary Purpose
Assists in the general beautification, cleaning, upkeep, and maintenance of city parks, greenway areas, city-owned landscaped areas, and the grounds surrounding municipal facilities.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Parks Maintenance Superintendent or as assigned.
- Works as a member of a crew to perform the general beautification, cleaning, upkeep, and maintenance of city parks, greenway areas, city owned landscaped areas, and the grounds surrounding municipal buildings inclusive of trimming, tree care, landscaping, trash removal, cleaning, etc.
- Assists Parks and Recreation Department during times of special events.
- Operates zero turn mowers in a manner consistent with safety principles.
- Maintains grass areas around the city.
- Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the general public.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

- Maintains appropriate supplies for assigned area.
- Maintains neat and orderly work area.
Education & Experience
Must have a basic knowledge of zero turn mowers and grounds maintenance.

General knowledge of landscaping, grass, and tree care. Organizational/planning skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Basic Computer skills. Ability to troubleshoot, modify, and maintain maintenance equipment. Must be able to memorize and retain information. Must have good time management skills. Must have good cognitive and analytical skills. Must be able to handle stressful situations. Must be able to quickly judge and assess situations. Must be able to make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility. Must possess manual ability to operate a computer.

Special Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Missouri State Driver's License.
Miscellaneous Requirements
- May be required to work a variety of shifts including weekends, or holidays.
- Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the work force.
- May be subject to random substance abuse testing.
Physical Demands
Performs bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling, and reaching to ground level and overhead; Must be able to reach, grip and hold; Must be able to lift 50 pounds above their head; Must be able to push, pull and carry 60 pounds.
Work Environment
Both indoor and outdoor working environments with exposure to dust and pollen, toxic fumes, chemicals or smoke, contagious diseases, electrical and mechanical hazards associated with equipment, extreme noise; Subject to variety of extreme weather condition; Susceptible to safety hazards associated with working in and around high traffic volume; Works in confined places and awkward positions.
