Trade Description
               
HVAC Division 
Assist licensed HVAC Technician/s in repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing all types of commercial HVAC systems and required to maintain ice machines. Must be able to climb/work on ladders/lifts to reach high ceilings or walls. Required to perform preventative maintenance on all types of HVAC mechanical equipment. May also help to perform essential duties in mechanical, structural, HVAC or welding. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

These is a non-exempt positionsSUMMARY 
Performs work in multiple (mechanical/structural/HVAC) skilled trades. Performs semi-skilled work assisting in the repair and maintenance of buildings and equipment. Depending on area assigned, assist a skilled worker in making electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding, mechanical and related repairs and installations. Use of standard tools and equipment of trades. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Required to wear some type of respiratory protection in the performance of their duties, pulmonary test will be provided by the City. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
May include the following depending on area of assignment

Performs work in multiple (mechanical/structural/HVAC) skilled trades.

Performs semi-skilled work assisting in the repair and maintenance of buildings and equipment.

Performs unskilled manual work in the completion of plumbing projects.

Perform preventative maintenance and assist a skilled carpenter (worker)

Help fabricate metal objects which may involve, lay out (fitter), cutting, measuring and help welder to weld metals to create the desired shape or object

Assist licensed HVAC Technician/s

Operates and maintains various types of hand and small power tools.

Assist in maintaining inventory control for tools.

Assist with event support, snow removal and other emergency tasks may include nights, weekends or holidays as needed

Adheres to established safety procedures.
Must be able to climb/work on ladders/lifts to reach high ceilings or walls
Other duties may be assigned

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 
Requires a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED; Minimum of 6 months related experience in construction or mechanical environment
              
LANGUAGE SKILLS 
Ability to read and comprehend instructions. Ability to understand and follow specific oral or written instructions
 
REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to apply common sense carry out written or oral instructions
