What are the responsibilities and job description for the TIRE REPAIRER II position at City of Rocky Mount?

DEFINITION:  This position is responsible for repairing and replacing tires on City vehicles and equipment.

REPORTS TO:  The Heavy Equipment Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions.•    Changes flat tires on City trucks, vehicles, and equipment.

•    Responds to field break downs; changes flat tires in the field.

•    Patches and repairs damaged tires.

•    Balances tires using related equipment.

•    Orders and maintains supply inventory.

•    Performs state required inspections; inspects and replaces emission control
     devices; completes inspection forms.

•    Cleans and maintains tools and work areas.

•    Disposes of damaged tires.

•    Performs other related duties as assigned.•    Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.

•    Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major
     duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an
     apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

•    Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the
     State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.•    Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of vehicle and equipment tires.

•    Knowledge of City vehicle and equipment tire characteristics.

•    Skill in the operation of job-related diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power
      tools.

•    Skill in the repair and maintenance of a wide varied of tires.

•    Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions.

•    Skill in establishing cooperative and productive working relationships.

•    Skill in setting priorities for competing projects.

•    Skill in performing mathematical calculations.

•    Skill in interpersonal relations.

•    Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:  The Heavy Equipment Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES:  Guidelines include department and division policies; equipment operation manuals; and safety regulations.  These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY:  The work consists of related tire repair duties. The variety of vehicles and equipment to be maintained contributes to the complexity of the position.

SCOPE AND EFFECT:  The purpose of this position is to repair and replace tires on City equipment and vehicles.  Success in this position contributes to the provision of a safe and operable fleet.

PERSONAL CONTACTS:  Contacts are typically with co-workers, members of the general public, and vendors.

PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:  Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work is typically performed in a stockroom, warehouse, garage, or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:  None.
