General Description and Hiring Rate
Essential Job Functions
Assists with budget preparation; makes recommendations.
Plans, directs, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of subordinate personnel.
Conducts general fire training and crew training exercises.
Enforces Departmental rules; union rules, and standard operating procedures.
Develops work projects.
Directs fire ground and other emergency activities; performs fire prevention tasks; directs emergency medical calls.
Effectively responds to inquiries whether in person, by telephone, or by written correspondence; investigates complaints.
Maintains station records; assists in the development of Fire Department budget(s); maintains computer reporting system.
Maintains station and equipment; arranges equipment repair.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Knowledge of basic firefighting techniques.
Knowledge of basic first aid and first responder (basic) life support techniques and advanced life support (ALS) techniques.
Knowledge of basic mechanical principles.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern firefighting techniques.
Knowledge of city streets and building locations.
Knowledge of modern supervisory methods and techniques.
Knowledge of computer-based applications for fire science.
Ability to perform physically demanding and strenuous tasks under hazardous conditions.
Ability to deal effectively with citizens affected by emergency circumstances.
Skill in the use of basic firefighting and emergency medical treatment equipment and techniques.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, or GED; Three (3) years of current active experience as a Firefighter EMT or Firefighter Paramedic with the City of Safety Harbor; State of Florida Firefighter minimum standards certification; State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic certification; Safety Harbor Fire Department engine driver certification; State of Florida Fire Officer I Certification issued prior to November 18, 2013, Fire Officer II Certification, or the ability to obtain FO II Certification within twenty-four (24) months from date of hire. Valid Florida driver’s license.
