What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Video Producer position at City of San Antonio?

Under general supervision, is responsible for the technical production of multi-media programming used to inform citizens of City activities and services. This position has a primary focus on the television production of live public meetings, such as City Council meetings, City Council Committee meetings, and Boards and Commissions meetings.  Exercises no supervision.
  • Assists in the production of live public meetings, including equipment setup, loading and controlling presentation materials, directing, audio monitoring, and in-room technical support.
 
  • Interfaces with clients including City Council members, members of boards and commissions, executive staff, department directors, city staff and members of the public to successful produce live public meetings.
 
  • May be required to produce: remote live public meetings, taped studio productions, other video productions as needed, edit video, and provide audio visual setup for special City events like news conferences.
 
  • Manages and operates all equipment for studio production including lights, camera, switcher, sound, graphics, teleprompter, recording devices, props and set pieces.
 
  • Performs A/V setup and recording for field productions and special City events like news conferences, on-location public meetings, etc. This includes the setup and operation of cameras, lighting equipment, teleprompters, audio equipment, projectors, podiums, speaker systems, microphones, cameras and lights.

  • To assist with programming production, communication/interaction is required with producers, commercial clients and City staff, may lift/carry up to 25 pounds and must operate a camera, often reaching, standing, handling, walking, climbing, twisting, and sitting to set up and operate equipment on location. 
 
  • May be required to work some weekends and/or evenings in order to accomplish above tasks.
 
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Radio, TV, Film or a related field.
 
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in video photography and editing experience.
 
  • This position requires a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License OR valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.  Use of your own personal vehicle may at time be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Experience editing video and video graphics with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects.
 
  • Experience with live television production (switching, running camera, operating audio board, etc.).

  • Ross  switcher and LCS experience preferred.

  • Experience framing and storytelling.

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.  One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
 
  • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks.  If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
 

  • Knowledge of all phases of Video/TV production.
 
  • Knowledge of the technical requirements of operating a television production facility, including audio-visual production equipment, live-studio operation, and non-linear editing systems.
 
  • Knowledge of media management practices.
 
  • Skill as a Technical Director in a live production studio environment.
 
  • Skill in setting up, operating and maintaining audio/video production equipment including cameras (DLSR, ENG, GoPro), field lighting kits and studio lighting equipment, wireless transmitting audio systems, and television switchers.
 
  • Skill in working with Adobe Creative Suite programs including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Story.
 
  • Skill creating motion graphics for video.
 
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing email, calendar, and word processing software.
 
  • Skill in effectively prioritizing and handling multiple tasks and problems at once and remaining calm in stressful situations.
 
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
 
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
 
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative and successful relationships with internal and external customers, co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
 
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
 
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
 
  • Ability to perform work with strong attention to detail.
 
  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position with or without accommodations.

  • Working conditions are inside an office or photography environment.
