SUMMER CAMP Supervisor (RECREATION LEADER IV)

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under supervision, develops, plans, organizes, implements, and supervises activities, programs, and special events at the Santa Cruz Teen Center located at the London Nelson Community Center at 301 Center Street and at two local middle schools.

Must have experience working with teens.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) seasons/semesters of paid experience working with children in a recreation or education setting. Two (2) seasons/semesters experience supervising staff.

· Working knowledge of recreation programs, services and appropriate activities for teens; strong interest in working with teens and young adults.

· Experience and/or combined educational training related to supervising and leading teen programs, activities or services in either a traditional or non-traditional recreation setting.

· Interact effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals (teens, young adults, parent, and business community).

· Experience/Ability to initiate contact, collaborate with, and utilize resources through local community organizations/programs.

· Respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations.

· Accurately prepare documents, such as weekly calendars, letters, program evaluation forms, memos, accident reports, parent correspondence, permission slips, event flyers, publicity, permission slips etc.

· Supervise the maintenance of equipment, supplies and facilities; open and close facilities when necessary; coordinate site and activity needs with Supervisor and community organizations as needed.

· Independently initiate and complete work activities.

· Ability to work with teens & co-workers from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

· Strong Communication Skills: ability to understand and give verbal and written instructions.

· Excellent Organizational Skills and ability to independently initiate and complete work activities.

· Ability & Knowledge of conflict-resolution strategies.

· Enforce and explain facility and program guidelines, policies, and procedures.

· Ability and willingness to work irregular hours, especially evenings, weekends and holidays.

· Maintain neat appearance; wear program uniform and closed toed shoes.

· Effectively motivate and supervise a number of teens at one time.

· Must attend all evening staff meetings

TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

· Provides supervision for program participants

· Assists in planning and implementing activities at the Teen Center and at local middle schools

· Uses social media to promote the Teen Center and programs

· Acts as cashier and may make deposits when required.

EDUCATION:

· High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of college experience.

· Recreation, P.E. or Education/Child Development course work desired.

REQUIRED LICENSES/TRAINING:

· Clearance on fingerprinting of all employees is required before work begins.

· Possession and maintenance of current certification in Adult/Child/Infant CPR and First-Aid

· Proof of negative tuberculosis test or clear chest X-ray results.

OTHER HELPFUL SKILLS (not required):

· Spanish speaker strongly desired & compensated

· Experience or knowledge of substance abuse issues in the youth & teen community (i.e. illegal drugs and alcohol)

· Experience or knowledge of violence prevention issues in the youth & teen community

Familiarity with local community organizations and resources

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: From $19.29 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Day shift
• Monday to Friday

• High school or equivalent (Required)
