This is a 32-hour per week, part-time classification and is benefit-eligible.
Under the general direction of an assigned supervisor, the Graphics Technician provides comprehensive graphic design, production and supporting services. In addition, this position prepares displays, exhibits, posters, signs, brochures, newsletters and flyers for print and social media and may assist, or lead, on special projects.
WHAT WE DO:
The Department of Recreation and Parks' mission is to enrich the lives of the residents of Santa Maria through quality recreation programs and services; and to provide safe and well-maintained facilities and parks, while anticipating the changing needs of the community. The department operates 234 acres of developed parkland in 28 neighborhood and community parks, part of the 1,774-acre Los Flores Ranch Park property, the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, and other community centers. The department provides programs in aquatics, youth and adult sports. It also manages the City's Urban Forest Program.

- Ideally, two years of paid experience in graphic design will be accepted in lieu of a degree; and
- Graduation from high school.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- College level courses in art, drawing, graphic design, etc., are desired.
- Current technical/professional knowledge of complex principles, methods, standards and techniques associated with the scope of work of a recognized profession, such as:
- Graphic design, typography, copy writing, layout, illustration, and use of color.
- Computer graphics programs.
- Knowledge of social media functions including content creation and publishing.
- Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent).
- Use computer and other office equipment effectively.

Application Ranking:

Departmental selection interviews with the hiring department will be scheduled once the Eligibility List has been established. Candidates are required to compile a selection of no more than ten pages that effectively demonstrates their hands-on experience in graphic and art design specifically as it relates to promotion of events and activities.
