What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crossing Guard position at City of Schertz?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This is work monitoring pedestrian crossings in school zones. The crossing guard is assigned to a specific school crossing. Has continuous contact with the public requiring considerable tact and diplomacy. Has no supervisory responsibilities. This is a seasonal position which begins at the start of the SCUCISD school year and stops at the end of the school year working approximately 2 hours per shift.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitors school crossing to ensure safety of pedestrians.
- May stop traffic at designated crosswalk as needed to allow pedestrians to cross roadway.
- Verbally instruct children to remain on the sidewalk until it is safe to cross the roadway.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Crossing guards will receive a training program in traffic direction as defined by the Texas Transportation Code 600.004.

Crossing guard working days coincide with the SCUC ISD school calendar.
Regular school day hours will be:
Monday through Friday 7:00am – 7:45am AND 2:45pm – 3:45pm
Half school days the hours will be adjusted.
These hours may be adjusted depending on the school / cross walk that they are assigned to and the school start / end times.
Scheduled hours will be approximately 7.5 hours per work week.
