What are the responsibilities and job description for the SVMPO INTERN position at City of Sierra Vista?
The Sierra Vista Metropolitan Planning Organization (SVMPO) is responsible for regional transportation planning within the Sierra Vista urbanized area. We work collaboratively with local, state, and federal partners to plan safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation systems for our community.
Flexible part-time schedule (15–20 hours per week, depending on availability). Work hours will be scheduled during normal business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM).
FLSA: Non-exempt.
The Sierra Vista MPO is seeking a motivated entry-level intern to join our team as a paid intern. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in local government, transportation planning, data analysis, and community engagement. The intern will support MPO staff on a variety of projects and learn about how regional planning impacts everyday life.

- Assist with data entry, file organization, and document preparation.
· Support transportation-related studies, projects, and reports.
· Help staff with public outreach activities, including community events, surveys, and presentations.
· Conduct basic research and compile information for MPO projects.
· Assist in creating maps, graphics, or simple charts to support reports and presentations.
· Perform general office support tasks as assigned.
Knowledge of:Interest in transportation, government, planning, geography, or related fields
Skill in:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; willingness to learn other software).
Strong written and verbal communication skills,
Ability to:
Work in a small team environment with minimal supervision
Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and produce a high quality work;
Reliable and punctual
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other agencies and the public.
Current high school student or high school diploma/ GED – Must be 16 years or older
