WSI/LIFEGUARD

DEFINITION

Under direction from the Recreation Supervisor, plans, organizes, leads, and conducts swim instruction; coordinates and organizes activities and special events related to aquatic activities and swim classes; performs routine customer service and conducts pool use and swim safety in serving as aquatic facility lifeguard; performs related work as assigned.

Essential Duties

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Monitors aquatics facility and guests, and ensures compliance to rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Assists and performs any necessary rescues in compliance with the Emergency Action Plan.
• Oversees and observes operations and activities in aquatic facilities in absence of a pool manager or assistant pool manager.
• Coordinates and organizes activities and special events; instructs water safety and swim classes.
• Reports and resolves complaints, special requests, safety conditions, security issues and illegal activities within scope of authority.
• Responds to questions, issues and concerns and provides excellent customer service; promotes City goals and priorities in compliance with policies and procedures.
• Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues, client records and City information.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

• Lifesaving methods and the application of first aid.
• Policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using the pool.
• Methods and practices of pool cleaning and maintenance.
• Rescue procedures for distressed swimmers.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary. Example combinations include:

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Two (2) years of experience as a swim instructor is preferred.
  
  

Licenses and Certificates

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate.
• American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
• American Red Cross First Aid.
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.

• Frequently required to swim, walk, sit and talk or hear.
