GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The Visual and Digital Media Specialist, based in the City of South Fulton's Public Affairs Department, is instrumental in capturing the city's essence through compelling visual storytelling to be used in and on various platforms. Responsible for producing high-quality photos and videos, this role supports marketing initiatives, documents city activities, and ensures brand compliance. This role requires a dynamic individual with a passion for visual storytelling and a commitment to maintaining the city's brand identity across all media channels. The Visual and Digital Media Specialist will play a key role in elevating the city's image and engaging with the community through impactful visual content.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with team members to plan, produce, and direct media content that aligns with the city's mission and branding guidelines.
- Produce, film, and edit video footage for various storytelling and marketing needs, including scripting, logistical coordination, and interviewing.
- Capture still photography of city events and locations for use in marketing and communications materials.
- Coordinate with external video production partners as needed and manage footage selection and review processes.
- Manage official portraits of city executives and staff.
- Maintain the city's YouTube channel and digital asset libraries for video and photography.
- Assist with design and layout of print and digital collateral materials.
- Create photo galleries and slideshows for website and social media.
- Create sizzle reels that amplify the City.
- Create social media reels featuring events.
- Maintain and update camera and video equipment, staying current with editing software technology.
- Manage multimedia projects using project management software.
- Measure the quantity of high-quality photos captured for city promotions, social media, and website content.
- Track the frequency of updates to the stock image library with new photos of the community.
- Monitor the production of entertaining and attractive social media reels and promotional videos.
- Measure the photographer/videographer's attendance at all city events and community gatherings.
- Evaluate the level of engagement with the public, speakers, and community members during events.
- Assess the clarity and quality of photos and videos produced by the photographer/videographer.
- Ensure that all photos and videos are properly labeled, organized, and easily accessible.
- Measure the photographer/videographer's collaboration with public relations, journalists, and social media managers.
- Ensure that all photos and videos align with the city's brand and communication strategy.
- Solicit feedback from stakeholders and review the photographer/videographer's work regularly to ensure it meets expectations.
- Ensure that all photos and videos comply with legal requirements, including obtaining consent from individuals captured in the images.
- Encourage and support the photographer/videographer's professional development in photography and videography techniques.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
- Bachelor's Degree in Digital Cinematography, Multimedia, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience as a photographer, videographer, and editor.
- Possess and maintain a valid State of Georgia Driver’s License in good standing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro/Final Cut X).
- Experience with DSLR cameras, video, audio, and lighting equipment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Creative, innovative, and detail-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse team members.
- Knowledge of design principles, marketing trends, and best practices.
- Proven track record of managing multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and perform tasks involving numerous details.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers, and representatives from other City departments, public officials, and the general public.
- This is a full-time position with regular hours, but occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
- The photographer/videographer may be required to travel within the city to various locations for events and photo shoots.
Physical Requirements:
Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight, up to 50 pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Tasks may involved extended periods of standing, walking, and moving to take photos and capture video at events.
