What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Instructor position at City of Spartanburg South Carolina?
Description
Performs responsible human support work supervising the safe use of public swimming facilities by pool visitors; does relate work as required. Position reports to the Recreation Supervisor.
Examples of Duties
- Ensures safety of all participants.
- Provides emergency life saving services to swimmers in need.
- Maintains discipline in lessons.
- ensures an atmosphere of professionalism, friendliness and safety.
- Observes actions of swimmers and enforces water safety rules.
- Assist lifeguards with deck preparations if necessary.
- Organize, set up and store all teaching supplies.
- Maintain accurate daily attendance records for your classes.
- Fill out progress reports completely and prior to last day of class.
- Arrange for coverage of class in event of absence.
- Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
- Adheres to Blood Borne Pathogens protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Experience working with children; prior teaching experience preferred, but not required.
qualified candidates must be able to successfully pass practical water skills test, including stroke demonstration and endurance.
Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly.

ARC Fundamentals of Instructor Training
ARC Water Safety Instructor Certification or equivalent Swim Instructor Certifications
Current ARC CPR or CPR/PR or equivalent
ARC Lifeguard or equivalent or YMCA YASA
