The City of Springfield is seeking an Assistant Director of Human Resources to serve as the principal assistant to the Human Resources Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the planning, organizing, leading, and directing activities of the Human Resources Department. This position will partner with the Director to lead and direct a diverse array of HR activities. The Assistant Director oversees HR divisions which includes the Employment and Benefits team to motivate and monitor staff in administering City policies and processes. This assignment is fast-paced and involves working within our HRIS systems, understanding, and interpreting City policies and procedures, and applying employment law. This position provides you with an opportunity to work in a strong team environment, partner closely with other HR team members and City departments, and lead HR functions that impact employees at all levels within the organization.

Experience, Education, and Training
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Public or Business Administration, or a related field;
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and professional HR certification(s);
AND
- Four years of professional experience in a centralized human resources department which includes a variety of program areas as well as supervisory and management-level experience.
PREFERRED
- Experience in government or public sector human resources.
- Master's degree in a related area.
Licensing/Certification
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CLRP, SPHR, or PHR certification desirable, but not required.
