Youth and Makerspace Librarian (Librarian I)

The City of St. Helens is currently seeking a dedicated professional to fill the role of full-time Youth and Makerspace Librarian at the highly regarded St. Helens Public Library. Located in the picturesque city of St. Helens, Oregon, this position offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from $5,138 to $6,246/month, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IN A YOUTH LIBRARIAN

  • Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Experience working with young people and in a makerspace environment
  • Knowledge of current library practices, youth literature, and STEM/maker programs
  • Proficiency with integrated library systems and Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Commitment to public service, community engagement, and lifelong learning

YOUR NEW ROLE AS OUR YOUTH LIBRARIAN

This Librarian I position entails a standard full-time schedule, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, with occasional Saturday and evening hours as required by operational needs.

As the Youth and Makerspace Librarian, you'll dive into planning and developing engaging programs and services for our young patrons, from interactive storytimes to hands-on STEM activities. As the primary steward of our Makerspace, you'll unleash your innovative spirit, designing and producing exciting maker programs for patrons of all ages. Throughout the day, you will wear many hats - from selecting and curating youth collections and working closely with staff to presenting programs for youth. You will head our youth Summer Library Challenge.

You will collaborate with community partners, conduct outreach to underserved populations, and cultivate lasting partnerships to expand the reach of our library's resources and services. You will also roll up your sleeves and facilitate a coding workshop, advise young readers on their next adventure, and dive into the Makerspace, maintaining equipment, tracking inventories, and sparking creativity with cutting-edge maker technologies. At the St. Helens Public Library every moment will be filled with purpose and passion.
