What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator II position at City of St. Petersburg?

This is skilled work in the City’s Stormwater, Pavement, and Traffic Operations Department, line clearing division, operating heavy-duty motor vehicle type equipment, of moderate operational complexity, used in street maintenance activities such as Vactors. An employee in this class will work in the line clearing division in rotating shifts that include daytime and overnight hours.


Salary: $20.25 - $28.91 Hourly

To Qualify


Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver License with “N” endorsement.
  • Be able to perform strenuous manual labor, sometime under unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Be able to work assigned shifts which include rotation of daytime and overnight hours.
  • Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred Applicants:

  • Have at least six (6) months of experience in the operation of heavy equipment.
