The City of Steubenville Civil Service Commission will hold a written, competitive examination for the position of Firefighter on Saturday, May 11, 2024, 9:00 a.m. at Eastern Gateway Community College, Lecture Hall #2100, 4000 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, Ohio.
NOTE: Physical Agility testing will follow for those who pass the written exam, at 12:00 Noon - Harding Stadium Practice Field.

A copy of a valid driver’s license must be provided at the time of application along with any pertinent documentation.
Applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2024, in person or by email to the email address found on the City application. Mail-in application packets MUST be postmarked by Tuesday, April 30, 2024, to the City of Steubenville, Civil Service Commission, 115 S. Third St., Steubenville, OH 43952. Anyone interested MUST complete & return the City’s Application Packet found on our website, as well as meet the requirements below to sit for the examination.
To be eligible to take the examination and qualify for the position of Firefighter, APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment. 20 years old to sit for
the examination.
2. 35 years of age is the maximum age to sit for the test and for appointment,
UNLESS the applicant has a current Ohio FF II certification and a current
Ohio EMS certification of EMT or above. Then the maximum age to sit
for the entry level exam shall be 40 years of age.
3. Shall be a citizen and resident of the United States.
4. Shall be a High School Graduate or hold a G.E.D. equivalent certificate.
5. Possession of a valid driver’s license.
*EMS Stipends are paid in addition to base salary and are based on the level of Ohio EMS certification.
Applicants must pass both the written examination and physical agility test to advance.
