What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Officer position at City of Sulphur?
Patrols within City Limits in no specified manner to be visible to the public. Generally, makes presence known to prevent criminal activity and to deter traffic violations.
Responds to all sorts of calls to include disturbances, thefts, crashes, homicides, ambulance assist calls and civil matters.
Enforces traffic laws to include traffic stops for various violations.
Performs duties at the scene of a fight or domestic dispute. Maintains Law and Order. Attempts to calm parties involved in a fight situation in order to gain control of the situation.
Performs investigations of crimes and makes arrests; reports descriptions of suspect(s) by radio transmission in response to criminal actions, in order to aid fellow officers in the apprehension of suspects; collects and labels evidence taken from the crime scene; talks to complainant, witnesses, and others, to obtain facts and information about various crimes; makes arrests according to law and established procedure.
Testifies in court by presenting facts and/or evidence related to the case and by answering attorney’s and magistrate’s questions, in order to present evidence for the proper disposition of the case.
Appears at schools in assigned area to present talks and programs on police related matters when requested or directed to do so; talks before groups of adults to provide information on traffic safety, drugs and narcotics, and other police related matters.
Composes and writes all reports required to be submitted at the conclusion of a patrol to make the information immediately available to supervisors.
Can be assigned to special divisions such as Narcotics, Traffic, Detectives or Training.
