As the Public Works Director, you will play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing our dynamic Public Works Department. Picture yourself at the helm of Engineering, Street Operations, Facilities Management, and Transportation divisions, responsible for engineering marvels, project management, and the smooth functioning of our city's critical infrastructure. From traffic signals and streetlight design to facility maintenance, street maintenance, capital projects and transportation planning – you will have it all under your expert guidance.

Essential Duties:
- Join the City Manager's executive team as a key player, driving citywide goals, policies, and programs.
- Lead and manage a talented team of 300-employees, ensuring top-notch quality control, and fostering a supportive work environment.
- Oversee department finances, including approximately a $250-million biennial budget development, procurement, and astute management of multiple revenue streams and expenditures.
- Forge strong relationships with internal leadership, elected officials, boards, commissions, community stakeholders, and external agencies, promoting collaboration and teamwork.
- Harness your decision-making process to execute the City Council's and City Manager goals, leveraging available resources and technology.
- Spearhead significant and groundbreaking public infrastructure projects, introducing innovative strategies and processes aligned with the city's vision.
- Develop and mentor staff, nurturing their talents and planning for future successions.
- Deliver engaging presentations to elected officials, appointed bodies, and citizen groups.
- Serve as the City Engineer
- Lead and manage the Public Works Department and multiple divisions, including engineering, project management, construction management, facilities and fleet management, street maintenance and transportation planning.
- Craft and implement policies, programs, and procedures that ensure the efficient and effective delivery of public works services.
- Organize, direct, and guide activities across the Public Works Department.
- Collaborate with other City departments, the City Manager's office, elected officials, and community stakeholders to align public works projects and services with the City's strategic goals.
- Provide exceptional leadership and guidance to department staff, overseeing hiring, training, and performance management.
- Maintain strict compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards.
- Competitive wages. The salary range for this position is currently $186,264.00 –$ 262,246.40 Annually.

Bachelor's Degree in engineering, or public administration or directly related field.
Minimum Experience*
12 years of public works or engineering experience including prior supervisory and managerial experience.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Washington State Driver's License
State of Washington Professional Engineer License
*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
