Days/Hours:
Monday-Thursday
4:30pm - 9:00pmUnder general supervision, responsible for coaching and instructing all skill levels of girls and boys gymnastics, from tots through competitive teams.

Sets up, tears down, prepares, and plans gymnastics classes.
Instructs tot through competitive team gymnastics classes, including warm-up, stretching, games, and leading songs.
Coaches compulsory and optional gymnasts at CARA practices.
Performs appropriate spotting of gymnasts.
Attends and participates in CARA meets and other team activities.
Ensures all possible safety measures are observed.
Communicates and enforces facility and class policies and procedures.
Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate accident and incident reports.
Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants and/or parents to answer questions and resolve problems. Reports any issues and concerns to supervisor.
Complies with city and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
Organizes and supervises children’s parties at one of the City’s recreational facilities. Sets up and decorates.
May lead or train Gymnastics Instructors.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
Requires two years’ experience coaching competitive-level gymnastics in recreation or a private club, or one year as a city of Thornton Gymnastics Instructor II.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certificates, or the ability to obtain both within 30 days of hire. Valid CARA or USAG safety certification, or the ability to obtain within one year.
May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of basic gymnastic instruction.
Knowledge of coaching competitive-level gymnastics.
Knowledge of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer and first aid.
Skill in performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and first aid activities.
Skill in spotting competitive gymnasts.
Ability to demonstrate gymnastics skills.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
Ability to effectively lead and coordinate gymnastics classes.
Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively with participants, parents, coaches and gymnastic officials at competitive meets.
Ability to promote and provide quality gymnastics classes.
Ability to provide necessary spotting for competitive gymnasts.
Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.
Ability to teach a non-competitive gymnastics class in a structured format for the proper progression of child development in gymnastics.
Ability to lead a non-competitive gymnastics class in stretching, games, songs, and gymnastics activities that are age appropriate.
Ability to substitute for other instructors.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, sit, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. This position is considered medium or heavy work depending on the assignment; exerting up to 50 or 100 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 30 or 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions. The employee may be subject to environmental and atmospheric conditions, as well as loud noise.

Salary : $18 - $23
