The City of Traverse City is seeking qualified individuals interested in Police Patrol positions. The City is seeking to fill two current vacancies.
Candidates considered qualified must have the following:
✓ Associate’s Degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) in Criminal Justice or other human services and two years related Law Enforcement experience.
✓ Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) certified or certifiable
✓ Successfully complete an in-depth physical examination
✓ Successfully complete an in-depth psychological examination
✓ Successfully complete an extensive physical fitness testing.
Final selection will be based on education, experience, physical testing, and oral interviews.
Residency requirement: 20-mile radius from nearest City limit within one (1) year of hire date. This is a union position under the Police Officers Association of Michigan, Patrol Unit. Starting wage is $25.53 per hour. Scheduled step increases at 6 months, 12 months, 24 months, 36 months, and 48 months.
Effective July 1, 2024: Starting pay is $28.18 an hour. $28.18 - $33.47 an hour depending on step.
Effective July 1, 2025: $29.59 - $35.14 an hour depending on step.
Effective July 1, 2026: $30.77 - $36.55 an hour depending on step.
Effective July 1, 2024, years of experience and background will be considered for possible lateral pay transfers.
